I’ve got 2 job offers – what do I do now?
You’ve managed to prove your talent and what do you know – suddenly you have multiple offers. Which job do you take?
Think motivations
What did you originally set out to achieve? The reasons for wanting to leave your role should not have changed. What you are looking for shouldn’t have changed much either. Re-visit your initial plan and wish list. Consider this:
- What is the role now and where will it take you
- What is the progression
- Does the industry interest you?
- What is the culture of the firm like?
- Where the role is based (is it logistically challenging?)
If all the above are right, the role should be right.
Pro’s & con’s
Consider all of them – not just salary. Which job option stacks up the most attractive overall?
Your negotiation skills
You must keep control even at offer stage. Be sure to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. Negotiate timeframes for the decision. Do not feel pressured into making a decision. Take time for full consideration but be sure to stick to timeframes.
Don’t burn your bridges
The market is smaller than you think. Be thankful for the opportunities and advice you received along the way. Utilise the experience as part of your future network, you may need this for benchmarking in the future or your own recruitment needs down the line.
Most importantly, remember to seek advice from your trusted recruitment advisor. By this stage, they have worked through the process many times and will provide a great opinion in light of the market.
